PROFILE

Karl Ma is a product designer and maker from Hong Kong. He graduated from Product Design at The Glasgow School of Art in 2026 and is currently based between the UK and Hong Kong.

A former windsurfing athlete, he left his sports degree after retiring from the sport and began pursuing product design during the pandemic. His work is shaped by a strong interest in material, craft, graphic design and objects that tell stories.

During his studies, Karl’s work often began with small observations of everyday behaviours, overlooked details and the quiet relationships between people, objects and place. Through making and visual communication, he explores how ordinary materials and familiar forms can be transformed into useful, characterful objects with a deeper sense of meaning.

For him, design is not only a way of solving problems, but also a way of seeing the world differently, asking how design can make the world a more beautiful place.
